Something shifts as we age . . .
Sometimes it’s a loss — a relationship, a role, a version of yourself you thought you’d always be. Sometimes it’s more of a question: “Is this it? Is this really who I am now?” And sometimes it’s just a quiet sense that you’ve been putting yourself last for so long, you’ve forgotten what it feels like to come first.

A small, private practice
These days most of my time goes to teaching, writing, and the courses in my Lecture Library. I also keep a small number of private clients, most of whom find me through people I’ve worked with. If someone sent you my way, welcome. I’m glad you’re here.
How we work together
Whether it’s a single consultation to sketch out your blueprint for aging or a few sessions on a specific problem, our work is practical and a genuine back-and-forth. I use my Five Pillars of Aging as a map, because most of what makes aging hard connects to one or more of them: purpose, relationships, change, legacy, or self-worth. You bring your situation. I bring decades of experience, a steady focus on what you can actually do next, and more than a little humor.

Good to know
This isn’t therapy.

- Therapy diagnoses and treats mental health conditions. I did that work for decades; what I do now is forward-looking and doesn’t require a diagnosis. If a clinical referral would serve you better, I’ll tell you honestly.
- Sessions are held on Zoom, or in person if you’re local, at a time that works for both of us on weekdays.
- Fees: $200 per hour, paid at the time of service. Insurance doesn’t cover this work. Please give 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel.
- Confidentiality: What you share stays between us unless you give written permission, with limited exceptions, such as when someone’s safety is at risk.
Working with the Five Pillars Model. . .
What sets me apart from other experts in aging is how I use Five Pillars in our work together. Aging is complex. Having a system to work with is invaluable. I’ve learned that most issues with aging link up with one or more of the five pillars: a question of purpose or meaning, a question of self-worth or relationship, a need to manage change, a question of what you are leaving behind, a question of presence — these aren’t diagnostic labels. They are invitations to explore and discuss with a trusted advisor
